František Kloz
football player, excellent scorer, member of the member of the Klub ligových kanonýrů (‘League Marksmen Club’), national team member, Kladno football legend, the best footballer in the history of Kladno, hero of the May uprising against the Nazis, honorary citizen of the city of Kladno in memoriam.
A native of Mlékosrby near Nový Bydžov; he began playing football in 1919 in Nový Bydžov, through Chlumec nad Cidlinou and SK Roudnice nad Labem, he joined SK Kladno in 1928; although he spent some time in Slavia Praha and almost a year in Sparta Prague, he played his entire league career for Kladno. Only there, in the blue and white jersey, his game was good, more than fine; he was the only one able to score 5 goals in one match against the “iron” team of Sparta, so he was both a hero of the SK Kladno American tour in 1934 and the league matches and the famous Central European Cup matches of the Kladno team; the blue-white team eliminated Ambrosiano (current Inter) Milan in this competition, Kladno, besides other things, introduced Juventus Turin, Ferenzváros Budapest and other excellent teams.
He played 478 matches and scored 592 goals for the first SK team (of which 185 were league matches with 172 scored goals) in 1928–1940; he is cited as the best scorer in the history of Kladno football by right, but he is also one of the most respected scorers of the Czechoslovak football; he became the league’s top scorer twice; he ranks seventh with 175 goals (172 for Kladno, 3 for Slavia Prague) in the League Marksmen Club.
During his time in Kladno, he was nominated to the national team nine times, managed to score six times. The end of his career in smaller clubs was interrupted by the death – he was injured during the fight against the retreating German occupiers in the woods near the village of Hříškov and succumbed to his injuries. Kladno football stadium was renamed in honour of this extraordinary personality – the best footballer of Kladno history in August 1968; the City Council awarded him the honorary citizenship of the city of Kladno posthumously in 2011.
