Kladno hockey legend, defenceman, Kročehlavy former player, long-time Kladno hockey team captain, champion, pillar of the national team, three-time World Championship bronze medal winner, the Czech Hockey Hall of Famer; honorary citizen of the city of Kladno in memoriam.
A native of Kladno; he grew up on Kročehlavský pond, started to play for Kročehlavy A-team in his 15 years to become a player of the Kladno team in 1951; during the war, he played on the team of Křídla vlasti Olomouc (‘Olomouc Homeland Wings’); despite a short interlude in Prague Spartak, he went back home – to Kladno.
Since the beginning of 1955 to the first half of 1966, he played for Kladno (Baník, Sokol, SONP); he played 15 seasons, started in 430 games and scored 113 goals (of which 225 games and 55 goals in the highest national league); Kladno captain of the team that won the first Czechoslovak highest league in 1959; this success is underlined by the fact that, because of the reconstruction of the Kladno arena, the team played all home games in Prague with the strong support of Kladno fans.
He represented the country 71 times and scored 12 goals; he participated in seven World Championships from 1953 to 1959 and the Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956; at the end of 1968, he joined the Italian club in Cortina d’Ampezzo where he not only played, but also trained the local hockey team; he also worked as a coach in Chomutov and Kolín, but he had to resign on the coaching job due to health reasons; an insidious disease ended his life prematurely; he was awarded the honorary citizenship posthumously by Kladno in 1998.
