Josef KOŠŤÁLEK
versatile footballer, national team member, Kročehlavy former player, 1934 World Vice-Champion from Italy.
A native of Kročehlavy, now a Kladno district; he made his debute for the Kročehlavy team on 21 October 1926 against Čechia Karlín, there were several former and future ‘Kročehlavy members of Sparta’ (Burgr, Hejma, Brabec); he joined Sparta Prague at Letná in the autumn of 1929 beginning to play the offense and later moved to the right side and played in defence at the end of his rich football career; he ended in AC Sparta in 1945 with a score of 535 played matches and 105 scored goals.
He spent the end of his football career as a player and coach in Považská Bystrica, coached the team of Baník Kladno in the 1957–1958 season; he wore the national team jersey for the first in 1930 and played a total of 42 matches scoring 2 goals; he represented at two World Cups – in Italy 1934, finishing second with the celebrated team, and in France four years later.
