hockey forward, Kladno former player, Kladno and Czechoslovak hockey legend, winner of the silver Olympic medal, two-times World Champion, six-time National Champion, Team Champion of Europe, Canadian Cup finalist, the Czech Hockey Hall of Famer, the best scorer of the Czech and Czechoslovak hockey history, member and the king of the League Scorers Club, triple Golden Hockey Stick winner.
A native of Kladno; hockey engulfed him when he was nine and began to play in Kladno mite team, he got into the SONP Kladno through another youth teams; he played 590 games to score 474 goals in the highest league in Czechoslovakia for Kladno and Dukla Jihlava (of which 503 matches and 435 goals for Kladno); his record of 59 successful shots from 44 games in the 1976/1977 season represents more than a difficult challenge for potential successors.
He was a member of Kladno best offensive formation of E. Novák-Nový-Bauer, supported by the defence of equally outstanding pair Pospíšil-Kaberle; he won five league titles and victory in the European Cup, with Kladno defeating Spartak Moscow in the final, during the most famous period of Kladno; during the famous period of Kladno; his excellent league results while wearing the blue and white jersey is supplemented with two third places; he participated in Kladno’s famous tour to the USA and Canada at the turn of 1977 and 1978 playing four successful games with the teams of the NHL and WHA.
We also played abroad for the teams of ZSC Zürich and WEV Vienna; in his last league season of 1988/1989, he played in an offensive line with the then seventeen-year-old Jaromír Jágr – how symbolic; he represented his country in 214 games scoring 122 goals; he has two titles (Katowice 1976, Vienna 1977), four silver and two bronze medals from seven World Championships; he competed in two Olympic tournaments (the silver was on his neck in Innsbruck 1976) and two seasons of the Canadian Cup (1976 and 1981).
Milan Nový, nicknamed the ‘Package’, a centre with a quick, hard shot of a short swing, scored countless goals, but the most famous remains forever the one that meant the ‘dream’ victory at the 1st season of the 1976 Canada Cup in the Forum arena, Montreal – our national team defeated a stellar Canadian team 1-0; he was included in the all-star team of this tournament; five years later, he played semifinals at the Canada Cup; he played a season in the NHL for the Washington Capitals scoring 18 goals and having 30 assists, 48 points in 73 games; he worked in the Kladno hockey section as a secretary for six years.
